A Trip to Remember

We always say, hospice care is not just about helping our patients to die with dignity in the place they call home, it is about helping them live life to the fullest surrounded by the people they love.

Although our hospice patients have, in most cases, lived full lives, there is no reason they shouldn’t continue to have quality in each and every day they still have ahead of them. We want to make their everyday wishes come true and give their families memories that will give them peace and comfort for years to come.

For patient Anne, she really wanted to take a shopping trip to a few of her favorite stores, but due to limited mobility and COVID restrictions had not been able to go in more than a year.

For some, something as small as running to the store can become untenable without the loving help and support of a full care team. We at VNA arranged a shopping trip for Anne. This included her social worker meeting her in the morning to help her get ready, coordinating transportation to and fro, and an aide to escort her through the store and ensure her safe return home. Anne was able to experience the freedom and the joy of a little retail therapy once again and was so excited to be able to tell her son all about her adventure.

Special thank you to Lifetime Care at Home, who helped to make this wish come true. This wish was made possible through our Hospice Wish Program, which is supported by generous donors who understand the importance of quality of life, each day of life and Lifetime Care at Home, who generously donated the aide escort. For all wishes, both large and small, VNA Community Healthcare & Hospice relies solely on donations to make them possible.
