Small gestures can have a powerful impact. This philosophy is something that our Hospice Care Team, which includes registered nurses, a hospice physician, home health aides, social workers, volunteers, bereavement counselors, and spiritual counselors, is intimately familiar with.
For Patient Marion, when asked if she could have anything, what would it be, replied; “a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.”
Social worker Mari and spiritual counselor Dana immediately got to work to fulfill this simple wish. The trio had a blast socializing and sandwich making and much to Marion’s delight, she was able to enjoy her PB&J surrounded by her friends.
Marion’s story is one of many in the VNA Community Healthcare & Hospice Wish Program. From smaller wishes, like a room filled with twinkle lights or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, to more complex wishes, such as a special visit to a favorite local destination, our team is endeavoring to make possible experiences that will bring joy and comfort.
